- You keep ownership of your scripts and production content.
- We do not sell personal information.

1. Who is responsible
Anansi is operated by Kearabetswe Koloko, a sole proprietor in South Africa trading as Anansi. For account, website, billing, marketing and service-administration information, Anansi is the responsible party or controller.
When a customer uploads cast, crew, student, collaborator or other production information, that customer will often determine why and how it is used. The customer may therefore be the responsible party or controller and Anansi its operator or processor.
2. Information we collect
Depending on use, we collect:
- Account information: name, email, authentication identifiers, profile, security data and preferences.
- Workspace information: organisations, members, invitations, roles, permissions and activity.
- Customer Content: scripts, treatments, characters, schedules, budgets, files, images, designs, comments, and cast or crew records.
- Payment information: plan, billing country, transaction identifiers, status, invoices and limited payment metadata. Card details are handled by payment providers.
- Support and communications: messages, feedback and correspondence.
- Newsletter information: email, consent and subscription status.
- Technical and usage information: IP address, browser, device, operating system, session, security events, feature usage and diagnostics.
- Local application information: preferences and limited browser-cached project information.
- Third-party information: authentication providers, collaborators, referrals, payments and chosen integrations.
Production data may contain sensitive details about people without Anansi accounts, including contact details, photographs, accessibility needs, dietary information, emergency details, locations and availability. Customers must process it lawfully and only as necessary.
3. Why we process information
We process information to create and secure accounts; provide editing, collaboration, storage, export and production features; administer workspaces, referrals, trials and subscriptions; process payments and prevent fraud; send service messages and support; provide requested optional features; monitor reliability; protect rights and safety; comply with law; and send lawful marketing.
Our legal bases may include performance of a contract, consent, legal obligations and legitimate interests such as security, support, fraud prevention and improvement. Consent may be withdrawn without affecting earlier lawful processing.
4. Customer Content and confidentiality
Anansi uses Customer Content only to provide, secure and support the Service and does not sell it or use scripts for advertising.
Collaborators access content according to workspace permissions. Public or share links may expose selected content to anyone with the link. Support personnel may access content only where reasonably necessary for support, abuse, security or law.
5. AI-assisted processing
The standard breakdown scanner uses programmed rules. Optional Enhance with AI may send selected scene text to Google Gemini through an Anansi Supabase function to suggest production elements.
AI enhancement remains off until deliberately selected, and the interface discloses the transfer first. Standard breakdown remains available without AI.
Production AI services must use commercial data-protection terms prohibiting Customer Content from training general-purpose models. Anansi does not contribute Customer Content to training datasets. Providers may retain limited data for security, abuse prevention or law. Do not use AI for information you are not authorised to share.
6. Who receives information
Where needed, information may be shared with:
- Supabase: authentication, database, storage, server functions and realtime collaboration;
- Resend: transactional and newsletter email;
- Paystack: South African payments;
- Lemon Squeezy: international merchant-of-record, tax and subscription services;
- Google Gemini: optional AI enhancement when expressly selected;
- Google, Apple or Microsoft: sign-in where selected;
- hosting, security, professional-advisory and support providers;
- workspace participants as directed by customers; and
- authorities or parties involved in a lawful business transfer where legally justified.
We require providers to protect information and use it only for agreed services.
7. International transfers
Anansi serves users globally. Providers may process information in South Africa, the United States, Europe and elsewhere. Where required, we use contractual or other safeguards intended to provide adequate protection.
8. Retention
We retain information only as reasonably necessary:
- active accounts and Customer Content: while the account or workspace is active;
- cancelled subscriptions: content is retained and the workspace downgraded rather than deleted;
- deletion requests: access is removed and active-system deletion is targeted within 30 days after any stated recovery period;
- rotating backups: deleted content may remain until overwritten, targeted within 90 days;
- support and security records: generally up to 24 months unless needed for a dispute or investigation;
- billing, tax, fraud and legal records: as required by law, commonly up to five years or longer where validly required; and
- newsletter records: until unsubscribe, plus a minimal suppression record.
Aggregated or de-identified information may be retained where it no longer reasonably identifies anyone.
9. Cancellation, deletion and workspaces
Cancelling payment does not delete an account or content. After the paid period, the workspace may move to Free and content above plan limits may become read-only until export, deletion or upgrade.
A workspace owner must transfer ownership or expressly delete the workspace before deleting their account. Deleting an ordinary member removes their access but not shared workspace content.
Records may remain where required for tax, fraud, disputes or law.
10. Security
We use reasonable safeguards including encrypted transport, authentication, access controls, provider security, backups and monitoring. No online service guarantees absolute security.
We investigate qualifying compromises and notify affected parties and regulators as required.
11. Your rights
Subject to law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, portability and information about transfer safeguards. Email privacy@anansipro.studio. We may verify identity and authority.
South African users may complain to the Information Regulator. Other users may contact their local authority.
12. Marketing and cookies
Necessary account, security, billing and collaboration messages are not marketing. Marketing emails require consent or another lawful basis and include unsubscribe controls.
Anansi uses essential cookies and browser storage for authentication, security, preferences, collaboration, offline support and settings. We will add consent controls before using non-essential advertising or cross-site tracking where required.
13. Children
Accounts are for people aged 18 or older. The Service is not directed to children. Contact us if you believe a child created an account.
Adult customers may manage productions involving children only with necessary authority, consent and safeguards. Avoid unnecessary child information and do not use optional AI for it without legal authorisation.
14. Changes and contact
We may update this Notice and will publish a revised date and reasonable notice of material changes.
